CPCD
CPCD is a non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in the year of 1984, in the city of Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, by Tião Rocha, an educator and anthropologist. CPDC was created to act in Popular Quality Education and Sustainable Community Development, using Culture as a raw material and as a pedagogical and institutional working tool.
Its mission is to be a permanent learning institution in the fields of Education and Development, using Culture as raw material and as an action tool.
Since 1984, CPCD strives to implement and accomplish innovative projects, integrated programs and Social Transformation and Sustainable Development platforms, which are intended for communities and cities with less than 50.000 residents where 90% of the Brazilian population lives.
CPCD and Fundação ABH partnered up to initiate the Projeto Sementinha in Chácara Santo Amaro (Grajaú district) in the city of São Paulo, São Paulo State.
Healthy Community Project
With the focus of the ABH Foundation being on community development and due to the moving to two new locations within the territory, we saw the opportunity to improve the project objectives. Thus, Project Sementinha is now referred to as Healthy Community!
Project Objectives
To contribute to the transformation of São Nicolau and Novo São Norberto communities into healthy communities, applying the 16 principles of the “Carta Terra”, as the guiding points of all actions.
The specific objectives are as follows:
Methodology:
Since the beginning of the activities in the territories, we sought to identify, map and learn the IPDHs – “Indicators of Human Development Potential” – existing in São Nicolau and Novo São Norberto communities.
For this purpose we have gathered in each territory / community, in an articulated, integrated and solidary way the following trinomial:
Initiative Evolution:
In 2018 the initiative extended to the region known as Novo São Norberto, which led the team to know the territory and its residents, to involve them in the activities. So, it was confirmed the information from residents of the local Association and Community Health Agents of Ubs Chácara Santo Amaro, that many children live there.
The first residents contacted became interested in the project and in May 2018 began the activities with earth paint, which is always a good call to the community. In June work began with children following the Sementinha methodology, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the morning, at the local Association headquarters, leaving Tuesdays and Thursdays for activities aimed at the general community, also during morning.
Simultaneously in Jardim São Nicolau the community workshops are concentrated in the morning and in the afternoon the activities are directed to the group of children.
In 2018 the home visiting strategy strengthened the ties between the initiative and local residents, leading to the transition to a new form of action in the region.
The Healthy Community is gaining more and more space within the Jardim São Nicolau and Novo São Norberto communities and more recently in São Norberto with the strengthening of the partnership with the São Norberto Early Childhood Education Center, with new interaction proposals and joint activities with the children, parents and educators.
The groups of children are enjoying moments of new air and new learning. Meanwhile, adult residents appropriated the movement, participating in the community workshops, some of which are available to be with the children performing cuisine, cultural and play activities.
Even those who live in other regions are interested and value the Healthy Community, knowing the paintings of earth paint and the photos of the work published in the networks.
Partnership with the UBS (Basic Health Unit) of Chácara Santo Amaro, a partner from the outset, is further strengthened by the direct involvement of Community Health Agents in day-to-day activities and the design of some joint strategies.
The expansion of partnerships also happens and is expanded in network meetings, which seeks to favor the Chacara Santo Amaro community as a whole.
With the team of educators, moments of reflection, formation and self-care reinforce the energy, involvement and appropriation of our cause, enhancing the work of each and the collective in the communities where they work.
